Fortnite’s content update v8.01 today: Treasure Maps

Fortnite’s content update v8.01 today: Treasure Maps. The item’s description reads: “Follow the map to uncover hidden loot across the island! Find the X that marks the spot and get to digging.”

The new item can be found in chests or as floor loot and will guide you to a hidden trove of buried treasure. This buried treasure is much more valuable than normal chests, promising several Legendary items including weapons and consumables.

So how do these Treasure Maps work? First off, you shouldn’t confuse these with earlier season challenges. There used to be treasure map challenges that would pop up every couple of weeks (these might have been removed from the game in anticipation of Season 8 and its pirate theme). You’d follow the map to the location of a hidden Battle Star.

These new Treasure Maps have nothing to do with weekly challenges (unless a weekly challenge pops up that tasks you with using them) and are entirely based around finding glorious loot.

When you find a Treasure Map, you have to use it just like any other consumable. A dotted red line will appear that shows you the general direction of the buried treasure.fortnite free v bucks generator Note: You can only carry one Treasure Map at a time, so there’s no way to hoard these. You may as well use them ASAP. Other players can also kill you and take them from you (and vice versa).

In any case, follow the dotted red line and eventually you’ll see a glowing yellow shaft of light indicating where the buried treasure lies. When you get to where the light is shining from a great big “X” marks the spot. That’s fittingly piratical. You’ll now need to use your pickaxe to dig the buried treasure out of the ground. This can take a little while, so be vigilant and consider building around yourself. You wouldn’t want an enemy player to steal the treasure out from under you.

The chest itself looks much like an ordinary chest but takes longer to open, and it’s filled with much better loot.

That’s pretty much it. It’s a cool item that requires a bit more work than, say, the Christmas Presents from last season, which just popped up wherever you threw them.
